Instant messaging platform, WhatsApp has restored the video limit on status to 30 seconds, after limiting it back to 15 seconds in March. WhatsApp did this to reduce bandwidth usage in India, but the latest update status of WhatsApp TSAP for Android restores the video limit to normal.
Many countries in the world are in a partial or complete lockdown due to the spread of coronavirus, so WhatsApp has become a more possible way to stay in touch with friends and family. This leads to a lot of bandwidth usage and WhatsApp has decided to limit the duration of video posted by status updates to 15 seconds to reduce it. Similarly, YouTube, Netflix and other streaming websites have banned the release of more bandwidth on their video quality so that more users can use their services.
The restoration of the status status limit, first by WABetaInfo, was seen in the latest version for Android Beta in version 2.20.166. The update will be rolled out gradually and status videos with a duration of more than 15 seconds are allowed to be posted as a single story. WhatsApp statuses for the platform are basically Instagram Stories. It changed text-based status messages to allow users to upload photos and videos to share with friends. Content disappears automatically after 24 hours, just like on Instagram.
The limitation on WhatsApp status updates was applied only in India and WABATNFO has indicated that in order to roll out all users in India, the update can be forwarded through server-side.
Recently, the WhatsApp beta for Android was spotted with the option to initiate video calls through Facebook Messenger Rooms. This allowed up to 50 participants on a video call and was previously released on Facebook and Messenger. Meanwhile, WhatsApp TSAP's payment service is under investigation, this time for alleged breaches of India's anti-trust law and is being reviewed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
