History of Republic Day
For the dispossessed, the Congress party demanded full independence on the last Sunday of January 1930, which fell on 26 January.
On December 9, 1946, the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly was held in the Constitution Hall in New Delhi, and after this, a drafting committee was appointed and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee. It took almost three years (two years, eleven months and seventeen days exactly) to complete the draft constitution for an independent India in the Constituent Assembly. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November 1949. It came into force on January 26, 1950.
Ichchharlal Nehru also wrote in his autobiography, "Independence Day came on January 26, 1930, and it revealed to us in a flash of the noble and enthusiastic mood of the country. There was something impressive about the General Assemblies peacefully and everywhere. Or to take a pledge of freedom without encouragement. "

However, this year's Republic Day celebrations will look a little different because of the coronavirus. Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson as the chief guest for the 72nd Republic Day, but he canceled his visit to India on January 5 due to a new coronavirus outbreak.
Following this, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that due to the global COVID-19 situation, no foreign head of state or head of government will be the chief guest at the Republic Day event. This is going to be the fourth time in history when India will celebrate its Republic Day as the main offering without any foreign leader. The last time this happened was in 1966, and before that in 1953 and 1952.
